In 2024, production of injection or compression type moulds for rubber or plastics increased by 12% to 97M units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the production volume increased by 24% against the previous year. Compression type mould production peaked at 382M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2024, production failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, compression type mould production rose modestly to $4.7B in 2024 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the production volume increased by 17%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $9.2B in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2024, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2024, overseas purchases of injection or compression type moulds for rubber or plastics increased by 28% to 28M units, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at 30M units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2024, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, compression type mould imports dropped to $406M in 2024. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 4.4%. Imports peaked at $1.2B in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2024, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2024, South Korea (11M units) constituted the largest supplier of compression type mould to China, with a 37% share of total imports. Moreover, compression type mould imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (3.4M units), threefold. Vietnam (2.7M units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.5% share.

From 2013 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from South Korea amounted to -2.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-2.2% per year) and Vietnam (+22.2% per year).

In value terms, the largest compression type mould suppliers to China were Taiwan (Chinese) ($55M), Japan ($52M) and Germany ($44M), together comprising 37% of total imports. Canada, South Korea, Italy, Thailand, Luxembourg, the United States, Vietnam, France, Austria and India lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +4.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2024, the average compression type mould import price amounted to $14 per unit, with a decrease of -30.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 18%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $48 per unit. From 2021 to 2024, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2024, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($97 per unit), while the price for India ($3.2 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2024, shipments abroad of injection or compression type moulds for rubber or plastics was finally on the rise to reach 68M units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 29%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at 281M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2024, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, compression type mould exports rose modestly to $5B in 2024. In general, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2013 to 2024: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, exports increased by +73.2% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2024 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Russia (6.3M units), Morocco (6.2M units) and Poland (5.3M units) were the main destinations of compression type mould exports from China, with a combined 26% share of total exports.

From 2013 to 2024, the biggest increases were recorded for Morocco (with a CAGR of +28.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for compression type mould exported from China were the United States ($426M), Vietnam ($395M) and Mexico ($366M), with a combined 24% share of total exports. Germany, India, Japan, Thailand, Russia, Indonesia, Hong Kong SAR, Poland, Taiwan (Chinese) and Morocco lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.

Among the main countries of destination, Morocco, with a CAGR of +21.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average compression type mould export price stood at $74 per unit in 2024, waning by -11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 155%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $83 per unit in 2023, and then dropped in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2024, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($375 per unit), while the average price for exports to Morocco ($7.4 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+45.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
